August has seen a slight decrease in scrap prices and the index shows we are 52% down on the same period last year. Prices have been more stable this year and we still haven't seen any significant falls recently.

We hope that prices stay stable but the market is still uncertain about future movements. The iron ore prices did however reach a 3 month high before settling back late in the month.

No guarantees can be made that we won't experience several more price reductions over the balance of this year.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
