August saw a 16% decrease in the index for the month, which was predicted last month. It was expected that pricing had peaked and a correction would occur.

The index was also 36% higher than the same time last year. Prices may fall again soon but are expected to even out over the next few months.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.

CarTakeBack will always endeavour to offer the best prices for your scrap car. Our network of recycling centres always provide the most competitive prices, so why don't you give us a try, by accessing Australia’s only online instant 30 second quote and find out how much your car is really worth.
