As predicted last month the index was expected to increase for the month but not as high as 10%. The Iron Ore Index has been increasing also because of higher than expected demand in China. This month, the index was also 35% higher than the same time last year. The prices are expected to marginally increase again over January but we expect a flattening of prices in February.

You can be sure however that CarTakeBack through its network of recycling centres in Australia will always provide the most competitive prices nationally, so why don't you give us a try, by accessing Australia’s only online instant 30 second quote and find out how much your car is worth.

December's scrap car price update chart from CarTakeBack Australia

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
