What a year 2019 has been for the value of scrap cars! After a year of increases, we are finishing with prices in December staying level with what was paid in November, making the prices paid for scrap cars as we've been in the festive period the highest of 2019.

December 2019 sees the value of scrap cars a whopping 42% higher than they were in December 2018, after an upward trend of prices throughout most of the year.

Though we cannot tell what 2020 will bring, historically we have seen a dip in the value of scrap cars in the first months of the year. So if you want to get that old car off your drive, now would be a great time to do it!

Scrap Car Price Index December 2018 to December 2019

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
