February has seen a 7% increase in this index for the month and a 24% increase from the same time last year. Although there is still cautious beliefs that a drop is imminent prices are showing otherwise. The Metals Index is still predicting a drop sometime early in the year and demand for Iron Ore is said to be lower from China, so a lower scrap price may still occur soon.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
