January saw a small reduction for the month of 3% which was predicted last month. The index is 11% higher than the same time last year which reflects the price reductions last year. All speculation indicates that we will see price reductions for the early months with an expectation that price will stabilise again towards the middle of the year.

The iron ore index has been also been quite stable, but it's predicted we may see a drop in demand and prices soon.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
