March has seen a 5% decrease in this index in comparison to the previous month, but a 27% increase from the same time last year. It has been predicted for a while that there will be a correction soon and it is believed that more is to follow in the next few months. The Metals Index is still predicting a further drop and demand for iron ore is said to be lower from China.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
