We've seen a good upturn in the price paid for scrap cars this month, bucking the downward trend that was seen throughout summer. There's been an impressive 13% increase this month to the value of scrap cars compared to February, which is a decent 26% rise to the prices that were on offer this time last year.
Scrap car prices have continued to increase in recent weeks, so we're hopeful that the prices will stay stable as we move into April, however, scrap car prices fluctuate in line with global demand for metal so prices can change at any time.
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
