Good news this month, scrap prices have risen slightly, up 3% from the previous month, making them the highest prices seen this year, and an impressive 78% higher than seen this time last year!
The prices paid for scrap cars depend on the strength of the scrap metal market, which fluctuates in line with global demand. Right now, the market is doing well, so it's a great time to sell your scrap car. We are hoping that these high prices continue, but as with any industry, there is a chance the market will slow down as we go into 2019.
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
