The average scrap car price reported month on month is still turbulent. October saw prices increase, however they're back down in November. Though it's not all bad news as prices still remain above $500. In November the average price for a scrap car dropped by 6% compared to October. 

November Average Scrap Car Price $548

This month is the first for some time, where the year on year price has taken a downturn too. The average value in November 2022 is 3% less than those in November 2021.

The value of scrap cars is dependent on various factors, including the global demand for scrap metal, any reusable parts, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition and even the location of your car.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It's updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. We've taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

Top cars scrapped in November 2022

The top model scrapped - The Holden Commodore was the most frequently scrapped car at CarTakeBack recycling centres in November. The average age of Commodores scrapped was 18 and the scrap value was actually below the general average at $471.
