Despite the upwards trend of scrap metal prices over the past few months, there has been a small drop in prices this October, seeing a 3% decrease on prices paid for scrap cars when comparing to September. The good news is that scrap car prices are well up on October 2017, with the average scrap car raising 62% more cash!

The prices paid for scrap cars depends on the demand of scrap metal from the steel industry, which is looking good at the moment, but with the dip we have seen, may continue the downward trend into summer. If you're looking to sell your scrap car, now is a great time to do it, as the prices are still close to the top prices paid in 2018.

Scrap Car Price Index October 2017 to October 2018

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
