September has seen a slight increase in scrap prices and the index shows we are still 47% down on the same period last year. Prices are maintaining some stability this year and we still haven't seen any significant falls recently.

We hope that prices stay stable but the market is still uncertain about future movements. The iron ore index is still experiencing a 3 month high with expectations it may fall next month.

No guarantees can be made that we won't experience several more price reductions over the balance of this year.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
