There has been a drop in the value of scrap cars in February 2019, with a 6% decrease in the price of scrap cars when compared to January. Scrap cars have had a trend of going up in value in the past year, however, with February 2019 having prices 14% higher than they were in February 2018.
The value of scrap cars depends on the global scrap metal market, which is currently looking quite strong. The market is constantly fluctuating in line with demand, so the prices could fall further. If you want to sell your scrap car, or get that shell off your front yard, now is a good time to do it.
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
