Looking back at the scrap car prices in 2018 there had mostly been an increase to the value of a scrap car throughout the year. The last quarter saw prices remain relatively stable, with a very slight decrease in October and December.

Rolling into the new year, the value of scrap cars has dropped slightly this month. January 2019 saw a 3% reduction in the price of scrap cars from December 2018. The scrap price for cars is, however, an encouraging 33% higher than this time last year. With the value of scrap cars trending downwards over recent months, now may be a good time to sell your scrap car in case prices do fall further.

Scrap Car Price Index January 2018 to January 2019

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Australia. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
